The seam at the waist is the whole job

The tulle is not the hard part, and neither is the print. The difficulty is where they meet.

• A knit bodice and a tulle skirt behave differently. One stretches and recovers; the other does not move. Join them without stabilising the waist and the jersey drags the tulle into ripples pressing will not remove.
• Tulle frays, and tulle scratches. The waist edge sits against a child's stomach for a whole party, so it has to be enclosed — the first thing a parent notices and the last thing a low-cost factory fixes.
• The gathers must be even all the way round. Tulle exposes uneven spacing, and an uneven gather shows as a skirt hanging crooked at the front.
• The layers must be graded. Stepped lengths read stiff; graded lengths read soft — the whole difference between a tutu and a dress.
• The printed bodice is a small panel, and the print has to register on it and match at both shoulder seams.

Fabric and certification

Putting bamboo where the print goes is deliberate. Tanboocel® bamboo viscose is smooth at the fibre, breathable and moves moisture away rather than holding it, so the part against the body behaves like sleepwear rather than a costume. It is also the more durable choice in the wash, and a sustainable fibre claim is worth nothing if the garment does not survive the season.

OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100, Product Class I — the baby class, the strictest in the system — under certificates BJ020 287849 and BJ025 287848, valid to 15.07.2027. On a dress worn next to skin, that is what a retailer's compliance team asks for first, and vertical integration from fibre to finished garment is what keeps the trail continuous.
