The standard, explained
OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100 certifies textile articles under four product classes. The limit values differ between them, because the risk of exposure differs. Class I is the most stringent — it applies to articles for babies and small children up to three years of age.

Scope of certification
The scope of both certificates is identical on the material side — fibres, colourways and finishing processes — and differs only in the finished article range. This is the certified technical envelope your programme can be built inside.
Why this matters to your brand
Many retailers build their Restricted Substances Lists (RSLs) on STANDARD 100 and accept the certificate instead of commissioning further laboratory testing on the same articles.
All components must comply — not only the shell fabric. Over 1,000 harmful substances are tested, including every thread, button and accessory.
Banned azo colorants, pentachlorophenol, PFAS/PFCs, cadmium and lead, plus REACH Annex XIV and XVII, US CPSIA (lead), the EU POPs regulation and all textile-relevant ECHA SVHC substances.
Each certificate requires a successful on-site quality audit by an OEKO-TEX® institute, plus ongoing quality assurance — and sits inside a network of more than 35,000 companies.
